dec 5th, 2009 marked my 100th day with mommy & daddy (i was 13 months & 5 days old). i celebrated by going to ardenwood historical farm, where i got to see & experience a victorian christmas with a friend of mine. i wore red for the commemorative occasion, which was right in spirit with "father christmas". mommy even let me eat cookies that day, which were freshly baked from the wood stove! that night i got to eat out at "CPK" and congratulate mommy & daddy for making it to this point!
more important however, was ensuring my 100 day report was complete. presidents usually have people do this work for them, so i told mommy to "get on it".
TOBE'S 100 DAY REPORT (only read if you have TIME)
physically I am able to sit, crawl, stand, walk with aid, and walk 10-12 steps unaided. i am 90th percentile for my height, and 75th percentile for my weight. my head circumference remained 99th percentile, which leads me to discuss my intellect.
my intellect is not measured by "how smart i am" (as adults understand). it is measured by my fine motor skills. i can throw things purposefully, bang two objects together, use a pincer grasp well (especially for my cereal), and now my tripod grasp (thanks to the snack trap that auntie cindy & uncle jason bought for me). i was also an expert at taking things out of drawers (especially the kitchen drawers).
my language skills are coming along, despite the fact that i spent the first 9.5 months only exposed to korean. i respond to my english name (except when i am purposefully ignoring mommy, but "shhhh", don't tell her), babble A LOT, express barking when asked what a dog says, and use baby sign language for "more", "eat", "please", "dog", "thank you", and "fly kiss". my first english word was "hi", while waving.
waving "hi" and "bye" are things i can do, but sometimes chose not to do -- for the record, i am not a "dog" that does tricks "on demand" (though my parents might think i am). i am very easy going with new people, allowing them to "ooo" and "ahh" over me, and even hold me. i am however more than delighted to return to mommy & daddy after all "that" is over. probably the best part of my emotional development is that i can "hug hug" and "kiss kiss" mommy & daddy, returning the hugs & kisses they shower me with. oh yeah, i love peek-a-boo ... though i am starting to find that "old".
last but not least, my social realm includes less random objects in my mouth (mommy always stares me down), eating finger foods, attempting to feed myself with a spoon, gazing at everything with great interest, drinking independently from a sippy cup & a straw cup, drinking from a cup assisted, helping mommy & daddy get out of my clothes, and chewing all sorts of table food. i love watching people, and especially watch what people are eating. i have made some cool friends in my 100 days in the US, who have encouraged me along in my development and social ability.
if i were competitive in nature (which i am not), i think i did really well for my first 100 days in the US! i didn't make any promises i didn't keep, i didn't set off any wars between mommy & daddy - lack of sleep yes, but no wars, and my expenses were kept on budget! i learned a whole new language for their sake. i would give my 100 day report card an A++ if you ask me ... ok, A+ if you must. i mean, i'm not a "perfect" baby afterall.
TOBE'S HOLIDAY REPORT
if all these things were not exciting enough, i started *really* walking on dec 25! that was my christmas present to mommy & daddy who have been encouraging me to walk since i took my first step when i was 11 months old :) i think seeing both my cousins run off with toys without me was the key to my success. good old "competition", as my mommy says. i also decided to make a leap in understanding and speaking! i can say "ball" & "door" and can sign many new words all classified as my "bag of tricks". by far i see much more laughter when i say "mmmm" after i eat something yummy, say "ahhhh" after i drink something or say "koooong" while pointing down indicating what happens when something (or someone) falls from a higher place to a lower one.
i think i have babbled on long enough for now. hope you feel all caught up in my life!
some very overdue photos:
